From Our President

February brings with it a sense of renewal and possibility, making it the perfect time to embark on exciting quilting projects and connect with fellow enthusiasts. Despite the chill in the air, the sun is finally shining, and with it comes the promise of new quilting adventures and creative inspiration. I imagine much has been accomplished during this last month as it was the perfect weather to stay in and quilt.

We will begin our night coming together to discuss guild matters, provide opportunities for involvement in our guild and share our latest quilting projects. This month’s meeting also brings a celebration. We have the pleasure of honoring each and every one of our incredible members with a special birthday bash. Birthdays are a time for joy, reflection, fun and most importantly, cake! It is sure to be a fun evening!

2023 President Quilt Block

The block is a 3 rail block. The block is to be a finished size of4 ½” square, unfinished size of 5”. Blocks will be made with 2”x5” strips. The middle of the block will be white, tone on tone light or light print and she would like the maker to sign the middle block piece. The outside pieces are 2”x5” and can be in any color so she can have a wonderful scrappy keepsake quilt!

During Doris’s presentation we will learn what criteria quilt judges use while judging quilts. This undoubtedly will improve our personal quilting with design and construction tips and tricks. Come see what happens before the ribbons are awarded! Bring as many quilts as you like for a morning of fun! Bring your quilt and have it judged…just for fun and as a way to receive feedback on how to improve your quilting! Come and enjoy talking about quilts even if you don’t have a quilt you would like critiqued. There is a great deal to learn during the critiques of works of art.

Committee Activities

2024 Block of the Month
The Youngster Beelet

This year we will be using Amanda Castor's Circle City Sampler pattern for the Block of the Month.

We will be breaking the pattern up in the same manner as the 2023 Shop Hop. For those of you that bought the kits and haven't broken into them yet, this is your YEAR!!

Amanda requested that everyone doing the Block of the Month purchase a copy of the pattern. The guild will be buying copies for the first 10 members who sign up to participate. To sign up, click here or go to the website and fill out the form on the Block of the Month page. We still have 4 patterns left!!  If you are not one of the first 10 members to sign up or wish to join in after you see what fun we are having, Amanda has offered a 25 % discount code: SCRAPBASKETCCS

Each month the blocks that need to be completed will be posted on the website as well as listed in the newsletter.

The shop for the Second month will be True Cotton which includes:

Blocks 27
Block 11 (x3)
Block 14
Block 18

Please bring your completion this month!

Challenges
Tammie Earnest and Linda Auberry

We are thrilled to introduce the Pre-Cut and Panel Challenge for this year. It's time to dive into your stash, get inspired, and turn those beautiful pre-cut fabrics and panels into stunning projects!

For February, choose a fabric panel with a romantic or Valentine's Day theme to create a quilt, wallhanging, or other project.

Looking forward to March, explore the possibilities of layer cakes. Use a pre-cut layer cake to create a stunning quilt with harmonizing fabrics.  Consider incorporating traditional or modern block designs.

Donation Quilts
Susan Cinkoske, Lynne Secondino, Linda Cook, Karen Pollard

In January you donated 8 quilts and 60 bingo prizes! Thank you! Sheltering Wings also thanks you for your December donations: “Thank you for your thoughtful contribution of quilts and stockings . . . In-kind donations like yours are special because they often go right into the hands of survivors - or help us direct cash funds right to where our clients need them the most.”

We have had a request from the Villages of Indiana which operates in both Hendricks and Marion County finding homes for foster children. They need baby items such as bibs, blankets, burp cloths, changing pads, books, toys and especially clothes from infant to toddler. They cannot use bumpers or anything like that in a crib. April is going to be Baby Month, so please bring your items to the April meeting.

Quilts of Valor

The 2024 Special Ohio Star Block kits will be available at the meeting.

Thank you Leah Beaman for making those kits.

Pillowcase kits will also be available.  See you Tuesday.

Retreat Fall 2024

Save the date

Scrapbasket quilt retreat will be at McCormick's Creek the weekend of Sept 6 and 7.   We will be able to accommodate 25 quilters.

At this time I have 15 people that have shown interest. If you are interested you will need to let me know so I can compile a list of attendees.

2024 Raffle Quilt

Our quilt went to the quilter 1 week ahead of schedule, thanks to the quick turnaround by our appliqué sewer.  Quilt is in the process of being quilted, binding and sleeve is prepped.  We are on schedule to have it done by February 28.

Thanks to all involved, this would not have been possible without your sewing expertise!

We will have more opportunities for our makers to sign a leaf of the back of the quilt before it leaves in October for raffle.

Individual raffle ticket sales will be available in March and there are opportunities to work at booth in Bloomington show and the Quilters Trail Shop Hop (Avon).
