From Our President

Happy New Year and welcome back for another wonderful year of quilting adventures! It is a pleasure to be a part of such a talented group of quilters. Whether you are a seasoned pro or are new to quilting, your presence enriches our guild. I hope you all have enjoyed your holidays and can't wait to see what you have been creating.

Our agenda for the upcoming year is filled with exciting events, educational opportunities, and, of course, plenty of time for quilting and sharing our craft. I encourage each of you to actively participate in our meetings, workshops, and special events, as they offer a chance to expand our skills, exchange ideas, and build lasting friendships. If you have any suggestions or ideas for activities you'd like to see implemented, please don't hesitate to reach out. This guild belongs to all of us, and your input is invaluable in shaping its future.

I look forward to seeing your beautiful creations and hearing your stories at our first meeting of the year Tuesday. Here’s to a fantastic year of quilting!

2023 President Quilt Block

Please have your blocks for Beth ready to turn in on Tuesday. We will be collecting them at sign in and presenting them to her at our February meeting as a thank you for all of her hard work in 2023!

She has asked for a 3 rail block. The block is to be a finished size of 4 ½” square, unfinished size of 5”. Blocks will be made with 2” x 5” strips. The middle of the block will be white, tone on tone light or light print and she would like the maker to sign the middle block piece. The outside pieces are 2” x 5” and can be in any color so she can have a wonderful scrappy keepsake quilt!

IHQS Volunteer Sign-Up

Are you planning to attend this year’s IHQS in Bloomington, February 29-March 2? Scrapbasket Guild will be selling raffle tickets for this year’s raffle quilt. In order to sell tickets at the show and display our raffle quilt, we need to provide 30 volunteer hours.

Thank you to everyone who has already signed up! Your volunteer hours have us over halfway there! There are still openings available, so please visit
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4FAAA629ABF58-46975284-2024#/ today to sign up to volunteer. Each volunteer receives a free one-day pass to the show for each shift you work. What a great way to get into the show for free AND support Scrapbasket Raffle Quilt sales.

We will also need volunteers to sell our tickets and have our quilt set up at the quilt show. There will be a sign up sheet available at our meeting if you are able to volunteer for a time slot at the show.

Challenges
Tammie Earnest and Linda Auberry

We are thrilled to introduce the Pre-Cut and Panel Challenge for this year. It's time to dive into your stash, get inspired, and turn those beautiful pre-cut fabrics and panels into stunning projects!

How It Works: Each month, you'll receive a set of parameters for the challenge. It's either a pre-cut challenge featuring jelly rolls, layer cakes, or charm squares, or a panel print challenge.

January - Jelly Roll Jam: Let's kick off the year with a Jelly Roll Challenge! Create a project using a jelly roll and share your masterpiece with us. Whether it's a quilt, table runner, wall hanging, or a stylish bag, the challenge is to embrace the versatility of jelly rolls.

Monthly Themes: From a Sweetheart Panel in February to a Summertime Fat Quarter Fiesta in June, every month offers a unique theme to spark your creativity. The goal is to go beyond our comfort zones and make use of those fabrics we've been saving for the perfect project.

Cheer
Rhonda Nelson

If you know of any Scrapbasket member needing a little cheer, please let Rhonda Nelson know. She will be happy to send a card from all of us. Thank you.

Quilts of Valor

We’re all set to start 2024 with a clean slate. All quilts and pillowcases from 2023 have been completed and delivered to Kay. She sends her heartfelt thanks. Kudos to us!!!!!

So, what are we going to do this year? We will start out by making the 2024 Special Ohio Star Block provided by QOV Foundation. If you would like to see a color picture of it go to
qovf.org

Kits and patterns will be available at the February meeting.

As in the past you are welcome to make any kind of patriot themed quilt for the program. You can do it individually or with a group. I have batting and backing for completed tops if you need it.

Let’s review a few requirements even though you have done an outstanding job in the past in making your selections for fabric and patterns.

Use quality 100% cotton fabric only. Use patriot colors. No children’s novelty. No fabric that designates a branch of the service. No denim.

Size: minimum size is 55” X 65”
maximum size is 72” X 87”.

Thanks in advance for all you do for QOV.

2024 Raffle Quilt

Attention 2024 Raffle Quilt Construction Crew,

Thanks for a great month of sewing!! I was overwhelmed with the number of flowers that you all sewed and brought to November Guild Meeting. Thanks for your sewing time! I am even more excited about the progress. As for flowers, if you have any bring them to our December Construction Meeting at Library…extras will be for the back, kids quilt or we will make a baby quilt for raffle as well. For the overall quilt. I feel like we need at least 1 more big/taller flower and maybe another FPP sunflower…I just love how it turned out.

This month, we will work on a few more flowers, as mentioned, stars (both wonky and FPP), moths (FPP)…something I found and loved, and maybe even a bunny.  FPP patterns will be available at our library meeting.

Our next meeting will be:

Friday, January 19th, 2024 from 9:30am - 3:30pm

at the Brownsburg Public Library:  Roberts Room

Yours in Sewing,  Heather Kopeschka   317-445-3754

PS:  If one of you know of a room/church that we could use please let me know.  It could open up the options.

Photo Directory Reminder

Please don't forget to email jenna0327@gmail.com a photo of yourself for the directory, thanks!!
