Staying Cozy!
Dear Quilting Friends,
February may be the shortest month of the year, but it is filled with warmth, creativity, and inspiration – just like our guild! As we move past the brutal cold of January, I hope you are settling into new projects, finishing those UFOs, and even exploring fresh techniques.
This month is also a time to celebrate love and friendship, and what better way than through quilting? Whether you are stitching a Valentine’s-inspired project, working on a quilt for a loved one, or simply enjoying the fellowship of our quilting community, know that every stitch carries a bit of joy and connection.
We have some exciting events planned for this month. Local quilt celebrity Amanda Castor will be presenting both a program and a workshop that I am sure will thrill everyone present. If you have made anything from Amanda’s patterns, I encourage you to bring them in to share.
Let’s keep our needles moving and our hearts full!!
Warmly,
Dana Sederoff

Refreshments 2025
REFRESHMENTS FOR SCRAPBASKET MEETINGS
Our meeting refreshments have been a big hit. Who doesn’t love a special treat! We provide the table covering, plates, napkins and utensils, along with small bottles of water. We’re asking for sign ups to bring snacks for a meeting. Get together with your friends or beelet and volunteer for a meeting. I’ll be passing the sign up sheet around. Thanks!

Programs and Workshops
February Program
Local quilty celebrity, Amanda Castor of Material Girl Quilts, will be joining us to talk to us about several of her quilts and patterns! She will also have patterns for sale!
February Workshop
Wednesday Feb 19, 2025
Amanda will lead us in a fun 3 hour workshop over one of her best loved free pattern tutorials, Hexaround. “You will need a total of 72 jelly roll strips to make this quilt that finishes at a great throw size of 60” x 64”. The piecing of this quilt requires NO Y-SEAMS and comes together pretty quickly. It’s a great pattern for beginner and advanced quilters alike.” Come prepared with your favorite jelly roll of fabric to try out this stunning pattern!
March Program
Revel in some St. Patrick’s Day spirit with Leann McGiveron of Sumac Studios. She will share her lecture, Ireland Inspired-Interlacing Visual and Textile Arts. “A presentation that is the story behind ‘Ireland Inspired’ … how color bridges my work in travel photography with my Celtic knot textile/quilt pieces.”
April Program
Now you see it, Now you don’t. The Magic of Disappearing Blocks — “Learn about the magic and beauty of disappearing blocks with this interactive online lecture, demo and trunk show. Using 3 cameras, one on me and the quilts, one pointing straight down at the cutting mat, and one close-up on the quilts, I will be able to show you how easy it is to turn simple blocks into beautiful complex patterns. I will also show you how different block designs can be enhanced by color choices or slight modifications to make even more interesting full quilts.“
Committee Activities
Block of the Month & Challenges
Beth Archer
Hey quilters…. As you already know, we are combining the Block of the Month and Challenge Quilts together in 2025. That means that each month you will be “Challenged” to complete a block that meets the theme and technique for the month. In January the theme was “Celebrate the New Year”, and the technique was Crazy Quilting or Improvisation. February is “Love” with embroidery or embellishment. Each month will be a different theme and technique. If you want to work ahead, the Block Challenges are posted on our website. Remember, you get to choose the block size and color palette and be as creative as you would like. Use these blocks to challenge yourself to try new techniques or perfect them AND to try different color palettes. Channel your creative side.
At the end of the year, we will showcase your quilts and projects made from the blocks you created and have a little fun with a contest and prizes. You are welcome to bring your completed blocks each month to show off your project BECAUSE you know how much we love to see each other’s work. If you are running a little behind… no worries, plenty of time to catch up. Our final showcase will be in December.
Cheer
Rhonda Nelson
If you know of any Scrapbasket member needing a little cheer, please let Rhonda Nelson know. She will be happy to send a card from all of us. Thank you.
Donation Quilts
Cindi Johnson
We can use finished quilts of any size but particularly baby, child and lap, probably nothing larger than twin. Quilt tops are great, there is a group that will complete them. Donations of batting, yardage or fabric pieces can be accepted. Fat quarters, layer cake, charm packs, jelly rolls are wonderful, and partial of the packs are good if you have leftovers. Even a few pieces can be matched with something else. If you are donating scraps, please have them in useable chunks whenever possible (2 inch squares, 5 inch squares, 2 1/2 inch strips, etc.). Its a great way to declutter your sewing space and get rid of all of the leftover pieces from old projects.
If there is anyone who is willing to just piece, or just quilt, let me know and we can get you together. Quilting does not have to be fancy, just quick and easy. Keep in mind that many donated quilts get washed frequently so the sturdier the better.
Thank you!!

Creating Together for Our Guild
Thank you to everyone who shared ideas at our last meeting! I’m excited to explore craft booth opportunities that will allow us to sell handmade items, promote our guild in the community, and spark interest in new members. To make this vision a reality, I’m asking each member to donate a handmade item (or multiple items) of your choice, valued at $20, to be sold to raise funds for future guild activities. You’re welcome to donate more than once if you’d like, and the number of items we receive will determine how many events we can participate in. Feel free to get creative—our Block of the Month Challenge could be a great source of inspiration for your contributions!
Additionally, I’m looking for members—or perhaps a small beelet—interested in organizing a raffle quilt for 2026. This will be a collaborative project involving all guild members, with a completion goal of late 2025. If you’d like to help lead this effort, please let me know. Together, we can make these projects a success and continue building an even stronger guild!

A New Year and A New Quilt Block
QOV is going on hiatus for a few months while I recover from surgery.
BUT, don’t let that stop you and your friends from getting a head start on a QOV. The block this year is the log cabin. Directions with measurements, colors, and suggestions for settings can be found on the QOVF.org web page. The block is fun, fast, and easy. If you are cutting out one block, you might as well cut out a few more.
As in the past the guild will provide batting and backing for your quilt tops.
I will eventually have some block kits and pillowcase kits for you to do.
As always, Kay was over the moon thrilled with the quilts we made last year. She always says we do outstanding, quality work.

IN Heritage Quilt Show Volunteer
Happy New Year! It’s a new year and a new Indiana Heritage Quilt Show coming up in March. We need your help. Many of you volunteer year after year, and some volunteer for multiple shifts at each show. It’s hard to find words to express our gratitude for your generosity of time and enthusiasm, so I’ll just say THANK YOU from me personally and from all of us on the IHQS Board.
We are using Signup Genius again this year to register volunteers. We want to give past volunteers first choice of dates and times. The link to volunteer is below.
You’ll see a couple of changes in the jobs. We will not be selling Merchandise this year and we plan for volunteer check-ins to be done by Board Members near the ticket desk.
We have also added a slot for help with pre-show quilt hanging. This job requires standing for long periods and lifting and carrying quilts. It helps if you are comfortable with ladder work, but it's not required.
One thing that hasn’t changed is that volunteers receive a free pass to the show for each shift worked.

We hope you will join us in 2025 for another great show--March 6-8.
With gratitude,

Bloomington Quilt Show
The Bloomington Quilt Show is March 6-8, 2025 at the Monroe Convention Center, Bloomington, IN. The following is information was provided to us by the Indiana Heritage Quilt Show for anyone interested in participating or attending.
The challenge this year is a 30"x30" wall hanging made with your birthstone color. If you don't like your color, use another birthstone color instead. You have lots of options. You can use any technique and subject as long as your quilt is made with at least 50% of the birthstone color. Prizes for the challenge are the same as other categories: $500 first place, $200 second, $100 third.
Workshop registrations are open online at our website. We have 6 nationally recognized instructors this year. The 18 workshops include all types--appliqué, machine quilting, piecing, and design.
What you may not know is that in early January we have to cancel any teachers who do not have enough registrations. So, registering now helps ensure that your favorite instructor will be at the show.
Our website, IHQS.org, is where you register for workshops, enter your quilt, and read all about special events.
Photo Directory Reminder
Please don't forget to email jenna0327@gmail.com a photo of yourself for the directory, thanks!!
