From Our President

Happy April Scrapbasket Quilters,

Hopefully your month started well.  Can you believe that we are already a quarter of the way through 2023.  We have a lot of great things ahead with respect to Guild plans, programs and activities.  It was so much fun spending time connecting with each other over the past few meetings and showing off all the great projects, UFO’s, and BOM.

Just a reminder… if you haven’t yet paid your dues, please take care of this at this month’s meeting.  And speaking of membership….We love adding new members to our great guild.  It would be wonderful if you would invite friends and fellow quilters to attend a meeting and get to know us.  New members always add such great fun to our group.   If you are a member and haven’t been to a meeting yet this year…. We MISS You… hopefully April is the month you can join us.

For those of you participating in the BOM…keep up the great work.  We can’t wait to see this month’s block.

So many of us are making a big dent in our UFO bins, thanks to the Challenge team.  Keep it up.  There is nothing more fun than to see those projects to completion.  Be sure to bring your project and show it off.

Plans for the fall retreat promise a FUN time away.  If you haven’t signed up… be sure to see the information below OR sign up at the meeting.  You will not want to miss out.

Have you seen the raffle quilt?   It is absolutely beautiful.  Sales are going well but we still have a lot of work to do.  If you sold tickets, make sure to bring them to the meeting.  You are encouraged to sell as many as you can…so feel free to get more tickets to sell to your coworkers, family and friends.  Also, be sure to sign up for opportunities to sell raffle tickets at the different venue options.

April’s program is going to be wonderful…  don’t miss out.

May 2023

May Program:

HollyAnne Knight of String & Story

While HollyAnne's first exposure to machine sewing was at the young age of 8, it was much more recently that she returned to it. She began with a tshirt quilt for her Mama. Now, years after that first tshirt quilt made her fall in love with quilting, she is passionate about providing encouraging, high quality quilting education.

HollyAnne is the Founder & CEO of String & Story whose mission is to guide more quilters around the world to quilt with confidence rather than being afraid they will "mess up" their quilt.  String & Story teaches quilting with confidence and how to become a free motion Quilting Rockstar. She has worked with 20,000 students from 17 different countries around the world.

HollyAnne will talk to us about Quilting Plans.

May Workshop:

Crumb Quilts with Eugenia Fernandez

Wed May 17 - 6 – 9 p.m. at The Well Community

Members $25   Non-members $40

Are you drowning in scraps and don’t know what to do with them?  Make a Crumb Quilt!  This workshop will introduce you to the idea of crumb quilts and how to create them.  There is no one right way, but I’ll show you an easy way to get started.  The best thing is that there are no rules and no measuring.  It’s a very freeing way to sew, and there’s no need for pins or a seam ripper.

Want to try it and don’t have scraps?  Don’t worry – I have scraps enough for everyone.

Supply List

Square ruler as large as your desired block size (not required but helpful)

Donation Quilts
Susan Cinkoske, Cheri Guerrettaz, Bobbie Brinson

Wow! We have had so many quilts donated so far this year.  I know that many of the places we serve are very thankful.

We had several people participate in the scrap exchange so please let me know when you finish and I will give you your extra tickets. Looking forward to seeing what you have created.

We had some fabric donated and some small blocks already cut that would make great mug rugs or a strip for placemats. Also, if you like making pillowcases, there is some fabric for those.

Below is the list of places and what they need:

Brownsburg Meadows: Bingo prizes – small items such as Kleenex packets, mug rugs, dresser scarves, walker bags, and of course your beautiful quilts for Christmas.

Sheltering Wings: twin sized quilts for men, women, and teens as well as children, and stockings

Hendricks County Senior Citizens: placemats, napkins, table runners, and other small bingo prizes

Quilts of Valor

Hi everybody,

I don’t have much to report this month.  I am putting all those adorable scrappy star blocks you made into a quilt.  It is turning out quite nicely.  Hope to show it to you soon.  In the meantime, I hope you are doing well with the Split Back Star Block kits from last meeting.  I can hardly wait to see what great quilts will be created with those blocks.

Quilt Retreat

McCormick's Creek Canyon Inn
September 15-17

We have reserved rooms for 25 retreaters.  Two queen beds in each room. Rooms are vintage and a little small.

Meals will be on your own, we could not get a group food rate at this time. Canyon Inn has a restaurant on site. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and they have a full menu. Soup and salad bar at lunch is 12.99. I would suggest you plan to perhaps bring cereal, oatmeal and fruit for your room if you want to reduce costs. Chicken salad and premade salads also are good to bring for lunches. There is a microwave and refrigerator in each room.

No food in the sewing room is allowed; water will be available in the sewing room. There will be cutting tables and pressing stations also in the sewing rooms. If you bring your own iron, it must be the small travel type irons. We suggest bringing a covered mug or glass for drinks.  We can get into the sewing room at 9 am on Friday morning, our sleeping rooms will not be ready until 4pm. There is a $7.00 one-time charge to get into the park per vehicle.  We are working on getting a one-day class available, the kit will be cut, prepared and ready to assemble.

Cost: one person in room $400
Three people in room $135 each
Two people in room $200 each
Four people in room $100 each

A $50 deposit per room will hold your room. We only have 13 rooms available. Balance is due August 1st.

Indiana State Fair Pioneer Village

Last summer we worked at quilting frame at the Pioneer Village at the state fair.  We handed out little "quilts" to the children.  They were 2.5" squares with top, batting and bottom sewn down the middle in a +.  If you would like to help with making these little quilts, we would love to have you use up your colorful scraps for this project.  Also, if you are interested in doing a shift at the Indiana State Fair Pioneer Village at the quilting frame(hand quilting), please let us know.

Thanks,
Marylynne Meranda and Ruth Ruble
