August 2024 Newsletter

We meet the third Tuesday of each month.

We meet at The Well.Community

From Our President

As the school year begins, our family is gradually settling back into our daily routines, and the excitement is building for this month’s quilt guild meeting. August marks our annual auction, an evening that promises to be filled with fun, treats, and a little friendly competition as members bid on a variety of items. While you shop, don’t forget to grab a few raffle tickets for a chance to win our fantastic board raffle basket—a prize that’s sure to delight!

In addition to the auction, we’ll have surveys available at check-in. We sincerely appreciate those who have already taken the time to submit their feedback. Your input is invaluable as we work to improve our guild and plan for the future. Whether it’s suggestions for new activities or thoughts on volunteering, we’re eager to hear your ideas. Thank you in advance for sharing your insights, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday for an unforgettable evening!

UPCOMING PROGRAMS

August Programs:  Auction Time!!

Calling all quilters!  We all have some things to get rid of but could also use some new things, right?

The annual auction is coming up at the August 20th meeting. It will begin at 6:00 pm. Please bring any quilt items you would like to auction off and fill out a bid ticket. Consider adding a minimum selling price. We will be setting up the auction at 5:00 pm, so if you want to come early to help set up, or if you need to fill out a bid ticket, we will be there.

Auction items can include fabric, UFOs, notions, books, puzzles, food, services (quilting) or anything that you think would make someone happy!  We will also have a pattern/book table so bring those too.

The pattern/book table will be priced at $1 each and there will be raffle tickets for the board basket which will also be $1. We will accept cash or checks.

We will have baskets from the beelet for the live auction, and any items with more than 5 bids in the silent auction will automatically go to the live auction. We will also have cake!!

The auction is one of the biggest money makers for the guild, so please come to support our group and help bring great programs and activities to our group.

Any questions?  Please reach out to Dana Sederoff or Susan Gerbig

Folding Quilted Holiday Ornament

by Heather Kopeschka

Just in time for the holidays, the October meeting will be making Christmas ornaments. The presentation will be given by our own Heather Kopeschka. This will be a hands on workshop during the meeting! Heather will present 2 different ornaments with instructions and how to do it. Please bring your favorite holiday fabric with you to the meeting. Heather will show us how to fold and get the ornaments together so all we have to do is finish the sewing at home. Don’t forget cutters, pins or clips, needles and thread in case you want to do some basting! This promises to be an evening filled with fellowship and fun!!

Challenges
Tammie Earnest and Linda Auberry

August is upon us, and with it comes a brand-new challenge to spark your imagination and keep those sewing machines busy. We are thrilled to announce our latest adventure: "Beachy Batik Bliss."

This month, we're diving into the vibrant and mesmerizing world of batik fabrics. Whether you’re a seasoned batik lover or need a reason to try them, this challenge is perfect for capturing the essence of the ocean, sand, and sunshine. Imagine the soothing blues and greens of the sea, the warm hues of sandy beaches, or the bright pops of sunshine, in a beautiful quilting project.

To make things even more fun and accessible, please utilize pre-cut batik squares or strips for your project. These pre-cuts are a fantastic way to streamline your process and focus on the joy of creating.

And for September . . . Novelty Notions

Choose a fabric panel or novelty prints that showcase your hobbies or interests. Create a project that reflects your personality and passions using these specialty fabrics.

Challenge Completions from last month:

Cheer
Rhonda Nelson

Quilts of Valor
