From Our President

Hey Scrapbasket friends,

As we approach Thanksgiving… we have much to be thankful for.   I am thankful for each of you and the great contributions you make to the Scrapbasket Guild.  Each month we get the pleasure of seeing your smiling face and enjoying your wonderful companionship.  We are inspired by the quilting projects you share and the amazing way you donate to others.  We are so thankful for the new members who have joined us this year.  Happy Thanksgiving to each of you.

One of the treasures of our Guild is our friendships.  It is special to see each other at our monthly meetings and in-between as the opportunities arise.   Our relationships mean so much and are the important value of our quilting community.  The news of this past week of our loved friend, Mike Stephens, has shaken our world.  Our hearts and prayers go to Mike and his family. If you want to send notes, the best address to use is the store address: Not Your Average Quilter, 7615 S St. Rd. 267, Brownsburg 46112.  His family will appreciate your thoughtfulness.  Thank you to those who are providing updates via our Facebook page.  We will be taking a collection for Mike at our November meeting.  Please place your donation in the “Pig” when you arrive.

This month’s meeting promises to offer us all a wealth of ideas as we share our loved “Tips and Tricks”.  Please come prepared to share your great ideas, teach us your favorite method or skill…. Or even come prepared to ask for advice.  We are all experts in some way…sharing what we know with others helps all of us get better.

Plans are well underway for the 2024 Scrapbasket Guild year.  Now is the time for you to offer to help by volunteering to lead one of the many activities we do annually.  We need you to help “spread the load” of work. You can bring new ideas or a willing set of ‘hands’ or share your expertise of organizing or leading.  One of the benefits of getting more involved is that you get to know other members in a much more meaningful way.  The more involved, the more enjoyable it is for all.  So don’t hesitate to step up and lend a hand.

Speaking of 2024 plans…. Mary Lynne Meranda is needing to know of interest in a retreat.  She would like to get the date on the calendar and get arrangements made for this.  PLEASE let her know if you are interested, merandarights@aol.com.  Heather Kopeschka is hard at work in organizing the 2024 Raffle quilt.  Construction is underway.  If you are interested in helping, let her know, 317-445-3754, or s.h.kopeschka@gmail.com

See you this month… don’t forget to come a bit early for food and fellowship.

UPCOMING PROGRAMS

November Program:  Quilt Tips & Tricks

Have you ever watched Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting on PBS?  If not, you should check it out at:

Love of Quilting

Each show ends with a segment that shares tips & tricks sent in by quilters.  We have a whole guild of savvy quilters who have their own tips and tricks dealing with quilting. We want you to share them with the guild.

Come prepared to share one of those tips and tricks with your guild.  You can walk us through a description, demonstrate the trick, or share a useful website you’ve found.  Anything goes!

We’ll collect all your Tips and Tricks and share them with the guild so we all won’t have to rely on our memories.

All presenters will be ticketed and one lucky person will receive an issue of Love of Quilting.

Committee Activities

Challenges
Linda Auberry and Tammie Earnest

As the crisp autumn leaves fall and the cozy comforts of winter approach, we invite you to participate in the November UFO Challenge! This month, we encourage you to dust off a long-forgotten quilt project, the one tucked away in the corner of your crafting room, waiting for its moment to shine.

It's time to complete your
largest UFO quilt project.  Hopefully you've already been working on completing this one, if not maybe dedicate all of this weekend to finish it up!

A few of last months fabulous finishes:

Cheer
Rhonda Nelson

Our deepest condolences have been sent to Susan Voight, a former president of Scrapbasket.  Her mother, Grace Voight, recently passed at age 97.

If you know of any Scrapbasket member needing a little cheer, please let Rhonda Nelson know. She will be happy to send a card from all of us. Thank you.

Donation Quilts
Susan Cinkoske, Cheri Guerrettaz, Bobbie Brinson

I can hear the sewing machines humming as we work on all those Christmas presents and decorations.  While you are working, how about sewing a stocking for Sheltering Wings or a Bingo prize for Brownsburg Meadows?  Tissue holders, mug rugs, and bookmarks make great little gifts.

Wow! We are up to 61 beautiful quilts for Brownsburg Meadows and foster children of Hendricks County.

I am looking for one more person to help with Donation Quilts.  I have 2 others for 2024, but we all live in Marion County.  If you would like to help with ideas and getting items to places in Hendricks County, we could use your help.  Contact Susan or Lynne for more information.

Share your love of sewing!

Quilts of Valor

It’s that time of year when we gather around the dinner table with family, friends, and delicious food and share what we are thankful for.

It’s also time to sit around the quilting frame and share what we as quilters are thankful for.

I am thankful for all the time and support you have so generously given the QOV program at our guild. I am thankful for the tops and blocks you sew and the long arm quilting and binding you do. I’m thankful for all the fabric donations, the pillowcases, the cutting of fabric for kits, and the copies of patterns.

You have truly made QOV a success and blessed many soldiers.

Happy Thanksgiving

Susan

Retreat Wrap Up

The retreat at McCormick's Creek was fun, relaxing and I personally got a few things accomplished. I hope all those who were able to attend got a few projects done.  The quilt store is lovely down there.  Lisa from Unraveled is planning a new retreat in November if any of you are interested,She has a retreat a couple of times a year.

My question to the quilt guild is this retreat something you would like to do again?  We can book two years ahead, so we could plan for another retreat in September 2024, or early April 2025.  If you are interested please write me a note and let me know what you liked or what you would change. This could be time, place, or any other idea.  Please just email me at
merandarights@aol.com

Thanks to all those that attended.  Mary Lynne

2024 Raffle Quilt

Attention 2024 Raffle Quilt Construction Crew,

So, first question, how do you know if you are a member of the Construction Crew….if you are, you signed up in September at guild meeting after you heard me talk of needing help in making our raffle quilt.  You signed up as either as a piecer, applique’er, foundation paper piecer, quilter, binder…all that jazz.  If you are reading this and are unsure, you will see this exact message in your email in-box.  If you are reading this and missed the September meeting and wish to join this awesome group, reach out to Heather (her phone number is listed below).

First, the pattern or improv look we are going for is shown below.

Our next meeting will be:

Friday, December 8th, 2023 9:30 AM-3:30 PM Brownsburg Public Library:  Roberts Room

This room fits like 36 people, so much more space.  Just as friendly of a bunch, but a bigger space.

I will schedule more meetings for January soon.

What will you need:

Sewing machine, extension cords, rotary cutter, gray cotton thread, rulers, snips…all the basics for sewing.  Bring your scrap bins that have pieces of fabric in greens, pinks, oranges, yellows, pinks, etc..you get the idea.  If you have any flower ideas that look like it could be added, bring it.  Love to see if we can add an extra element of IMPROV.

I will bring FPP patterns printed on FPP paper (owl, moon/stars, flying geese, mouse), flower pattern (plus printed copies) ironing board and iron, extension cord for ironing board, wool ironing matt, dark/navy background fabrics, some leaf fabrics, several of my scrap bins, plus my machine and some rulers.

Cannot wait to get this going.  This quilt is going to be so EPIC.

Yours in Sewing,  Heather Kopeschka   317-445-3754

PS:  If one of you know of a room/church that we could use please let me know.  It could open up the options.

Wonky Star Update

Please keep bringing in your Wonky Star completions.  We can't wait to see them!
