Thank you to those quilters who participated in the On Vacation Challenge! Our current challenge is to create a block or quilt using foundation paper piecing. Remember that we are sharing our creations at the November meeting. You can bring a quilt of any size or just a block. The idea is to try foundation paper piecing if you have never done so!
September
Time is up on those “On Vacation” quilts! Bring your lovely creations to share!
Our next challenge is to create a block or quilt using foundation paper piecing. I know I am going to need more than one month to do this, so let’s show our creations at the November meeting.
August
Only one month left to create a quilt on the theme “On Vacation”! The quilt can be any size. This is the time to use those fabrics or patterns that you purchased when you were on vacation, or to create a quilt about a place you wish to go on vacation! We will share our creations at the September meeting! Have fun and enjoy your summer!
July

This is the time to use those fabrics or patterns that you purchased when you were on vacation, or create a quilt about a place you wish to go on vacation! June
It was great to see the different ways some of you finished your quilts! Thanks for sharing! I am looking forward to seeing what you chose to do with yo-yo’s!
When I was a young teacher, June, July and August were vacation time from school! So our challenge for the summer months is to create a quilt on the theme “On Vacation”! The quilt can be any size. This is the time to use those fabrics or patterns that you purchased when you were on vacation, or create a quilt about a place you wish to go on vacation! We will share our creations at the September meeting! Have fun and enjoy your summer!
May
A big thank you to all those who shared embellishments at the April meeting! I am looking forward to seeing the methods you chose to finish a quilted project with something other than traditional binding!
The challenge for May is to make something with yo-yo’s! Besides making a quilt out of yo-yo’s, you can use yo-yo’s as embellishments on or around the outside of a quilt. Perhaps you can create a bingo prize for the Meadows using yo-yo’s!
“Mask” has a yo-yo as an embellishment on the side of the mask.

I am looking forward to seeing your embellished quilting projects!
The challenge for April is to finish a block or a project using something besides regular binding. You can use facing, machine satin stitching, lace, pillowcase finish, or anything else you can find that will do the job!
“America the Beautiful” which is pictured has facing instead of binding.
mARCH
Thanks to Kerry and Glenda for sharing their curved piecing samples! I am looking forward to seeing your Big Stitch quilting projects! The challenge for March is to embellish a block or a project. You can use embroidery, fancy stitches on your machine, beads, cording, lace, crystals, feathers, ribbon, or anything else you can imagine! “Playtime: Recess” which is pictured has cording (for the jacks), yarn, and puff balls (for the marbles).
fEBRURY
I look forward to seeing the curved piecing samples that have been put together for the January challenge! February’s challenge is to use Big Stitch Quilting on any size quilted piece. This can be a practice piece using plain material or your curved piecing sample. Or you can use Big Stitch Quilting on a donation piece. For those not familiar with Big Stitch Quilting, use a simple running stitch and heavier thread (12 wt or 8 wt), perle cotton (size 8), or a few strands of embroidery floss. The thicker threads will require an Embroidery or Crewel needle (a needle with a large eye and a sharp point). Yes, this is hand quilting, but it is easy to do and goes fast!
